BJP leader picks stone to save his shops
RAJOURI: Vice-chairman of State Pahari Advisory Board Kuldeep Raj Gupta on Sunday apparently attempted to throw a stone at officials who demolished the two shops he had illegally constructed in Rajouri town.
A photograph that went viral on social networking sites shows Gupta, who is also a senior BJP leader, holding a stone in hand and arguing with a JCB driver.
“As soon as the demolition drive started at Gujjar Mandi area, Gupta appeared on the spot and asked the officers not to demolish his shops,” a witness said.
But the authorities went ahead. He then picked up a stone, but before he could throw it, his two personal security officers restrained him and snatched the stone.
Gupta, however, said that he picked the stone to hit himself.
“The shops which were demolished were allotted in favour of my unemployed sons on lease in 1980 during then Governor’s rule. The land under them measures one-and-a-half marla,” Gupta told Greater Kashmir.
“I am a poor man. I have devoted my entire life to the society. This one-and-half marla land was my only property,” he said. He said the photograph has been “misrepresented”.
