J&K HC directs Govt to implement Cinema Act 1975
SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has directed the state government to implement the Jammu and Kashmir Cinema (Regulations) Act 1975 to bring uniformity in the rates charged by the cinema owners.
In a Public Interest Litigation filed by the Advocates Sudharth Anand and Bhavishya Sudan, the High Court has issued directives to the cinema owners to implement Jammu and Kashmir Cinema (Regulations) Act 1975 at the earliest in the interest of the society.
The theatre owners have allegedly created a monopoly and charge from the customers on their own will.
Division Bench comprising Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice Sanjay Gupta has directed the cinema owners, who were also present in the court, to strictly follow the rules in stipulated time frame otherwise it will be treated as “contempt of the court”.
